Teaching employees CPR in the workplace gives individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

CPR when combined with prompt use of an AED has survival rates of up to 80% for cardiac events. Survival rates without AED's is typically less than 5%.
